Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian made history on Sunday by setting a new Asian record in the 100 meters sprint of 9.83 seconds, the first Chinese athlete to run in the showpiece event in the athletics competition at the Olympics.
8月1日，我国短跑运动员苏炳添在百米田径赛中以9秒83的成绩打破了亚洲纪录，成为首位冲进奥运会男子百米决赛的中国运动员。
Su's semifinal result shaved 0.08 seconds off his previous Asian record of 9.91. Su clocked 9.98 seconds in final, sixth in the eight-man field.
苏炳添在此次半决赛中比之前保持的亚洲纪录9.91秒快了0.08秒。苏炳添在决赛中以9.98秒的成绩在8人中名列第六。
Su's previous Olympic experience saw him eliminated twice in the semifinals. However he made the 100 meters sprint final twice at the World Athletics Championships in 2015 and 2017.

China will further promote sports and exercise among its people in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period, according to a circular issued by the State Council.
国务院日前印发《全民健身计划(2021－2025年)》，促进全民健身更高水平发展。
The country aims to further improve the public service system for sports and exercise, make it more convenient for people to participate in physical activities, and ignite the public's enthusiasm for sports, the circular noted. According to the circular, China will have 38.5 percent of its population participating regularly in physical activity by 2025.
《计划》明确，到2025年，全民健身公共服务体系更加完善，人民群众体育健身更加便利，健身热情进一步提高，经常参加体育锻炼人数比例达到38.5%。
To achieve these goals, the circular listed eight objectives, including stepping up development of public sports venues and facilities, hosting more public sports games and competitions, and advancing high-quality development of the sports industry, among others.
《计划》提出了8个方面的主要任务，包括加大全民健身场地设施供给、广泛开展全民健身赛事活动、推动体育产业高质量发展等。
The circular urged local governments above the county level to include the development of public sports and physical exercise in the master plan for the region's social and economic development.
县级以上地方人民政府应将全民健身事业纳入本级经济社会发展规划。

Typhoon Lupit made its second landfall on Thursday in east China's Fujian Province, bringing heavy downpours and forcing the evacuation of thousands.

The typhoon came ashore in Dongshan County in the city of Zhangzhou at around 4:50 p.m., with maximum wind speeds of 18 meters per second near its center, according to the meteorological observatory of Fujian.

This was just hours after the ninth typhoon this year landed in the city of Shantou, in south China's Guangdong Province, at about 11:20 a.m. Thursday, the National Meteorological Center said.
